Graffiti

When we visited our granddaughter at UNR last spring we had the treat of experiencing the Church Fine Arts Graffiti Stairwell. The diversity of art styles, images, and  thoughts and how one piece of art can play off of another is a visual feast.  Art can be anywhere and mean something/everything or just be entertaining.

According to the UNR website:   For the past 10 years the graffiti covered a three story stairwell at the University of Nevada at Reno has been the hotspot for creative expression.

The graffiti covered walls and floor make up the stairwell and are a collaboration of artists’ expression and imagination.  An explosion of color and shapes overlap, representing nearly a decade of diverse artwork and thoughts.

The stairwell is an alternative canvas for students to contribute their own creations and the freedom of expression.  It is filled with birds, caricatures, dragons, abstract designs and random quotes.  The stairwell is constantly evolving and is a testimony to the power of art to transform any space.

I know a lot of universities provide a place for the kids to paint or vent but this was the first time I was in the middle of one. A little jaw dropping and great to see what they can do.
