Carré d/Artistes is a gallery with whom I am associated. It’s based in France and they have 33 galleries worldwide. They focus on the tourist trade in major cities so the paintings offered are in 4 standard sizes for ease of carry out for the traveler. I ship the flat canvases to them, as many as 40 at a time, and they mat and mount them. The client can purchase as is or have them framed and shipped. It is really a fabulous concept. They exchange out the galleries for the individual artists every so often. I’ve been in Philadelphia, Bordeaux, and Sedona.
They decided to switch out and return some of my images so now I had to decide what to do with them. They are too small to put on a stretcher bar so I chose to mount them on a white mat board, all at standard frame size, put them in a glassine sleeve, and offer them at my shows. Getting them mounted to the mat board was a little tricky until my husband came up with this simple but ingenious device. They are all now perfectly positioned. I call them “frame-ables” – original paintings ready to frame. Below is the jig and some of the finished pieces.
