A few weeks ago I was commissioned to do a large painting for a client in Washington. The finished size will be 60×60 but it will be shipped by rolling it so it can go in a tube. This is the most economical way to ship something this size and the client will have it stretched. Because it isn’t on stretcher bars at the moment it had to be stapled to a board that is 70×70 which allows for mounting it to the board and eventually wrapping it around the stretcher bars. There are many steps that go into this process and I thought I’d share some of them with you. The finished project is pictured above. Here are the various phases of the painting. The client wants a neutral palette with a touch of red with some defined areas.

Thanks for visiting and for the comment. I have a few real time videos of the smaller pieces on my YouTube channel. I won’t be doing real time for larger pieces because it would be hours long and the average watch time is under 3 min. You can slow the video by adjusting the setting at the lower right corner of the video. I hope you can enjoy them as they are.

Will you apply an isolation coat and then a varnish before rolling& shipping?

All my paintings have a clear gloss UV protective finish coat. It’s solvent based and dries almost immediately but I like to let it sit for several days before shipping.
