A few months ago I did a lot of experimenting with heavy texture and gold leaf on stretched canvas. It was more texture than I have used before but thought I’d give it a try. I was curious as to how it would look and the effect on the canvas. Because it was very thick it did take quite a while to dry. I used an acrylic texture medium. There are many kinds of mediums that give different results. I had one on hand and added a tintable to it. Once dry, I added a layer of red paint under where I wanted the gold leaf. In the picture below you can see the red poking through. I then applied the leafing adhesive. The acrylic paints came next – several coats of them. I was happy with the results. It did turn out heavier than what I had anticipated but that’s OK.
When I was at the La Quinta Art Celebration a few weeks ago one of my collectors came by and had to have it for their home in Rancho Mirage. They have a number of pieces of mine there and in their home in Toronto. I’m happy that it found a good home so many thanks to them.
