Some years ago, a friend and I visited Germany for several weeks. We started in Munich where we stayed with friends and used that as a base to explore the area by foot and train. Our friend spent a day driving us to Murnau in Bavaria. A pretty little town at the foot of the Alps. The home of Gabrielle Munter, and for a few years Wassily Kandinsky. We, of course, knew of Kandinsky but I must admit I had not heard of Munter. I have since become an admirer.
She was a German expressionist painter at the forefront of Munich avant-garde in the early 20th century. She studied and lived with Wassily Kandinsky for awhile and was a founding member of the expressionist group Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider). Her work was stylized which emphasied simplified forms and expressive use of line and color.
There is much to learn about her so if you would like to read more: https://nmwa.org/explore/artist-profiles/gabriele-m%C3%BCnter
Below is a photo of her home, the palettes that she and Kandinsky used and images of her work.
