There are several online galleries in which I am a part and, of course, all require photographs. Etsy, in particular, wants up to 10 images which can be a bit of a challenge finding different ways to take the pictures. The newest trend is to take photos in what’s called a “flat lay.” This means you are on a stool or ladder, above the subject, leaning over it, trying to keep your balance, aligning everything, and shooting straight down. Not a pretty pose. I use this method mainly for my small paintings that are square but was struggling to get the photos aligned just right and not skewed in some way.
My husband, hearing me complain and getting frustrated, devised this simple but very effective frame where the camera sits perfectly level. I have to take so many pictures in various forms and really didn’t want to keep setting my tripod up and down so this is the perfect solution. All I have to do now is arrange the items on the table, climb on a stool and shoot. Voilà! It works like a charm. He is so clever! Above is a photo of the frame and below are a couple of samples trying out different backgrounds.
What a great idea and what a smart husband you have!!
Thanks, Fil, It is a pretty cool device. Saves me a lot of time and he is a smart guy. I haven’t worked on the blog for over a year so am still struggling a bit but I’ll get it.
