Art Easel Put To Good Use

My easel is a work of art in itself. My Dad made this for himself in 1977 and I inherited it.  Because I often work on large paintings, my husband has added long cross pieces  for support and an aluminum ledge to set the canvases on.  It has wheels and adjusts up and down as well as at an angle back and forth.  When I finish for the day I like to turn it so when I walk into the studio the next day i can see the piece I was working on. It’s very helpful to get a fresh look and see what has to be done. My Dad was an artist and  also a woodworker by avocation. We  have many pieces of furniture in our home that he has built for us but the easel is something very special to me.  It’s like a warm hug from my Dad.  Thanks, Daddy!

This is a page from one of my parent’s photo books.  It shows both Mom and Dad at his new easel and some of his photos of it when it was brand new.  It looked pretty much like this when I got it.

My version of it.  Well used and well loved.  Not so sure my Dad would be too happy about the mess I’ve made of it but would appreciate how much I use it and the results of my efforts.

I like to put several layers of paper towel and some old paint sticks on the rail to keep the painting from sitting right on the rail and sticking since I use a lot of water.

Forty-odd years later, there’s still a lot of art left in that easel!

That is for sure, David. It’s used almost every day. I’m so glad that I have it.
