The beauty of fall foliage doesn’t escape anyone’s notice. This handsome golden colored tree is in my yard where I enjoy it for as long as the color lasts. The memory of the warmth of the saturated color is ispiring all winter long. Nature inspired images have a way of doing just that.
A week or so ago I added this photo to my Facebook header for an autumn look. There was an immediate response from my viewers that this image would make a fabulous painting. I like the photo very much and don’t do literal artwork but thought it would be a great inspiration for a new abstract painting -a good “jumping off point” . The yellow and gold hues were calling to me and I wanted to see where it where the journey would end. Below is the result of this “inspiration.”.
So here we are. A softer and much more muted version of the original photo with an under glow of ocher. It really isn’t intended to be a represention of the tree but capture the essence with color, light and form. I like the subdued palette but think it still has liveliness and spirit to it.
This last photo is a close-up detail of the painting that shows the visual texture that makes the artwork inviting and gives it depth. Nature is a gift that keeps on giving.
